The Texas A&M baseball team earned the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will open regional play on Friday in Coral Gables, Florida, the selection committee announced Monday.
The Aggies, the No. 2-seed in the regional, will face No. 3-seed FIU (36-23) in the regional opener on Friday at 11 a.m. (CDT) at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field. Top-seeded Miami (40-17) will meet Dartmouth (26-17) in a 3 p.m. game. All games of the regional will be televised live by ESPNU.

Roland, one of the leading defenders in the Big 12 Conference and the second-leading scorer for the Aggies (8-3) crashed hard to the court early in the second half after jumping under the basket, breaking his lower right leg.

As a means of encouraging public input, the Presidential Search Committee has made a survey feedback form available; the form allows visitors to rate and comment on the process, including criteria for presidential candidates, and to make suggestions for improvement. Direct nominations can be emailed to TAMU-Nominate@tamu.edu. Nominations should contain full names and sufficient information for contact. The committee also has implemented several outreach efforts, including town hall-style meetings and a comprehensive website at www.tamu.edu/president/search.

This marks the third straight year for the Aggies to finish among the Top 18 universities in the country. Boosted by three spring national championships, the most national titles by any Division I school this year, the Aggies raced to their second-best finish and point total behind the record-setting performance of 12th place and 1031 points in the 2007-08 competition.

Dr. R. Bowen Loftin ’71, vice president of Texas A&M University and chief executive officer of its branch campus at Galveston, was named interim president of Texas A&M today by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents.
The board took the action after formally accepting the resignation of Dr. Elsa A. Murano, who had served as president of Texas A&M since January 2008 and has announced her intent to return to the faculty of Texas A&M’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. In accepting her resignation, the regents awarded her the designation of president emerita.

No. 25 Oregon State scored six first-inning runs to take control of the game and eventually eliminate No. 18 Texas A&M from the NCAA Fort Worth Regional with a 13-5 win over the Aggies Sunday afternoon before 2,496 fans at Lupton Stadium.
The Beavers (37-18) put together an 18-hit attack and got a complete-game outing from junior Jorge Reyes on the mound to stay alive in the regional. With the loss, A&M concluded its 107th season of baseball with a 37-24 record.

The Texas A&M baseball team earned its third consecutive bid to the NCAA Tournament and will open regional play on Friday at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, the selection committee announced Monday. The Aggies (36-22) were an at-large selection to the 64-team field and will join TCU (36-16), Oregon State (35-17) and Wright State (33-28) for regional action this weekend. A&M is seeded second in the regional and will face the No. 3-seeded Beavers in the first game at 2:00pm Friday. TCU and Wright State will face off at 7:00pm.

Texas A&M University has once again retained the trophy as champions of the State Farm Lone Star Showdown. On the strength of its womens conference title and mens second-place performance at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Aggies scored two points in the Showdown standings in this years final weekend of competition to pull even with t.u. Each school finished with 9.5 points in the final standings, but as defending champions, Texas A&M will keep the trophy for another school year, according to the rules agreed upon by BOTH universities.

A&M will face 15th-seeded Evansville (15-18) in the first round of the Trenton Regional to be held on Sunday, March 22 at 11:00am (CT) in South Bend, Ind. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2.

Despite a valiant second-half effort, No. 6 Texas A&M fell to No. 3 Oklahoma, 71-59, Sunday afternoon at the Lloyd Noble Center. The Aggies (14-2, 2-1) had been off to their best start in Big 12 Conference play and won three of their last four meetings with the Sooners. Senior All-America candidate Takia Starks (Houston, Texas) scored all of her team-high 19 points in the second half, while senior All-America candidate Danielle Gant (Oklahoma City, Okla.) added 18 including 10 on 5-of-7 shooting in a low-scoring first half for the Aggies.

It marked the Aggies third win over a top 25 opponent this season and the largest margin of victory (+32) over a ranked opponent in school history. A&M, off to its best start in 35 seasons of Aggie Basketball, remained undefeated on the season at 11-0.

Head coach Gary Blair, who coached the Ladyjacks from 1985-93, was inducted into the schools Hall of Fame at halftime with words from University President Dr. Baker Pattillo and several of his former SFA players in attendance for the special occasion.

It was only the second time the Bears won in their last 23 meetings against Texas A&M.

The Hurricanes (2-1) piled up 398 yards on 57 plays -- an average of 6.98 yards per offensive snap -- and handed A&M its worst nonconference defeat at Kyle Field since a 30-10 loss to Alabama in 1988.

Texas A&M senior Megan Gibson was named the 2008 Big 12 Softball Championship Most Outstanding Player, tossing a three-hit shutout as the fifth-ranked Aggie softball team (49-7) pounded out 10 hits to sweep both the regular season and tournament titles with the 5-0 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers (25-27) in front of 736 fans in the title game on Sunday at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium. It is the first Big 12 Tournament title for the Aggies in program history, their third conference trophy in the past four years.

A&M lost only its second Big 12 series of the year—and first since March—while falling to 42-10 and 19-5 in conference play. The Huskers improved to 38-9-1 and 17-6-1. NU took the first game of the twinbill, 9-8, with a five-run ninth inning rally.

Kyle Colligan’s walk-off home run to open the 10th inning lifted No. 6 Texas A&M to a 3-2 win over and a series sweep of fourth-ranked Missouri Sunday afternoon before 3,744 fans at Olsen Field.
Colligan smashed a first-pitch fastball from Tiger pitcher Rick Zagone over the fence in left center, just underneath the scoreboard, for the junior’s first walk-off home run of his career.
The Aggies (37-7, 18-3 Big 12) won their 15th straight league game and have now swept the last five Big 12 series. Mizzou, meanwhile, fell to 29-14 and 9-9.

Blake Stouffer’s two-out single in the 11th scored Kyle Colligan from second base and completed Texas A&M’s wildest comeback win in years, as the eighth-ranked Aggies tied the game with a six-run ninth en route to a 13-12, 11-inning win over Baylor Sunday afternoon before 3,737 fans at Baylor Ballpark.
Texas A&M tied a school record with their 12th consecutive league victory, remaining in first place at 15-3 and improving to 33-7 overall. The Bears, who were swept by the Aggies for the first time in Big 12 play, fell to 23-17 and 8-10.

The win kept the Aggies in first place in the Big 12 standings with a 14-1 record. A&M is 42-7 overall. Kansas fell to 30-15 on the season and 4-8 in league play with their fifth straight loss.

Texas A&M completed its third consecutive Big 12 series sweep on Sunday as the 8th-ranked Aggies run-ruled Oklahoma, 12-2, in seven innings before 4,301 fans at Olsen Field.
A&M improved to 30-6 on the year and 12-3 in league play while winning its 13th straight game. The Sooners fell to 22-13-1 and 3-8-1. The Aggies matched a school record with their ninth Big 12 win in a row and became the first A&M team since 1991 to sweep three straight conference series.

Texas A&M’s record-setting run in the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship came to an end and one game short of the Final Four as the second-seeded Aggies fell to top-seeded and third-ranked Tennessee, 53-45, in the Oklahoma City Regional finals Tuesday night before a crowd of 9,341 at the Ford Center.
The Aggies, whose previous best NCAA Tournament run was a Sweet 16 appearance in 1994, finishes the season at 29-8 overall marking a school record for wins after having won 16 of their final 18 final games of the year.

Danielle Gant scored 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting to lead Texas A&M to a dominant 63-39 victory over 10th-seeded Hartford in the second round of the NCAA tournament Monday night. Morenike Atunrase added 13 points to help the Aggies (28-7) win their 11th straight game.
Texas A&M, seeded second in the Oklahoma City Regional, will look to advance to the regional finals for the first time ever next weekend. The only other time A&M, which did not have women students until 1963, advanced to the round of 16 was in 1994.

Carter scored 26 points, matching his career high, as the Aggies defeated Brigham Young 67-62 in the West Regions first round on Thursday, handing the Cougars their sixth straight opening-round loss.
Joseph Jones added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the ninth-seeded Aggies, who will face No. 1 seed UCLA on Saturday.

The Aggies (26-7) earned their second all-time conference tournament championship crown next to the final 1996 Southwest Conference Tournament-winning A&M squad. The Aggies became the first No. 4 seed in league history to clinch the tournament title. Junior Takia Starks (Houston, Texas) was named Most Outstanding Player as she averaged a team-leading 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over the course of three tournament games. She scored 10 points and had a team-high seven rebounds versus the Cowgirls. A&M outrebounded OSU, 40-30.

After being the underdog for the first nine years of existence of the Big 12 Conference, the fourth-seeded and No. 11-ranked Texas A&M women’s basketball team continues to reach new heights with its first-ever appearance in the Big 12 championship game with a 65-53 semifinal victory over eighth-seeded Iowa State Thursday night at Municipal Auditorium.
The Aggies (25-7) have gone 2-0 at the postseason conference tournament with a 65-39 win over 12th-seeded Missouri in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. They have won 12 of their last 13 games of the season and are riding a conference-best eight-game winning streak. A&M became the first No. 4 seed in league history to advance to the championship game and claimed only its fifth all-time win in the tourney.

Donald Sloan and Dominique Kirk had 12 points each, and Texas A&M held Iowa State to 27 percent shooting to open the Big 12 tournament with a 60-47 victory Thursday night.
It was an ugly, physical game, with lots of pushing and shoving under the basket and plenty of missed shots. Texas A&M (23-9), the sixth seed, smothered Iowa State defensively and did just enough on offense to hang on for its second win in 13 Big 12 tournament games.

| Texas A&M, Arkansas Establish Football Neutral Site Series in New Cowboys Stadium |

Texas A&M University, the University of Arkansas and the Dallas Cowboys organization have announced the formation of a football neutral site series to be played in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The 10-year agreement calls for the series to begin in Oct. 3, 2009 with Arkansas serving as the home team in odd years and Texas A&M as the home team in even years. The stadium is expected to seat approximately 80,000 for this game with the distribution split evenly between the two institutions. With the configuration of the end zones the capacity could increase to 100,000.

DeAndre Jordan grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots for the Aggies (22-8, 8-7 Big 12), who won for the second time in six games after losing their last two road games by 27 points.

The 44-point margin is A&Ms biggest win in Big 12 history and in its series against Tech. Texas A&M (21-7, 7-6) was aggressive, scrappy and excited from the beginning of this one, looking nothing like the team that scored just 59 points in a loss to Nebraska on Saturday.

The Big 12 Conference and its television partners announced the 2008 Texas A&M vs. Texas football game will be televised by ESPN and the game will be played on Thanksgiving night. This marks the first time for the game to return to Thanksgiving since the 1993 game, which is also the last time ESPN televised the rivalry game.

The Aggies (No. 19 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) have won six of seven leading up to Saturday’s meeting with rival Texas. Texas A&M (19-7, 7-5 Big 12) took a commanding lead midway through the first half and led by double-digits through most of the game.

Augustin and the Longhorns pushed back. The result was a Texas blowout, 77-50 Monday night that kept the streaking No. 7 Longhorns rolling and tied for first in the Big 12. Texas last loss was a humbling 17-point defeat in College Station on Jan. 30 when the Aggies (20-6, 6-5 Big 12) bullied their way through the Longhorns.

The Aggies (18-4, 4-3 Big 12) led by one when Donald Sloan got a steal and cut through the lane for a layup that made it 54-51 with just less than 2 minutes remaining. Two free throws by Sloan about a minute earlier had given the Aggies the lead. It was the third straight win for Texas A&M and breaks a three game winning streak for Oklahoma (15-6, 3-3).
